Shiraz Uppal in Geo show

POP star Shiraz Uppal and fashion designer Ayesha Shiraz will appear in GEO TVís Nadia Khan Show on October 14 . According to a press release on Friday, Shiraz Uppal would also finalise the location to shoot the video for one of his songs from album “Ankahi” during his visit.
JAP to challenge by-poll verdict

LAHORE
JUDICIAL Activism Panel (JAP) Chairman Muhammad Azhar Siddique has alleged that the Punjab government led by the PML-N is trying to postpone elections so as to complete the ten-year period mandated by the treaty signed by PML-N Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif. According to a press statement issued on Friday, the JAP chairman said that the panel would challenge decision of the Lahore High Court to postpone by-polls in Punjab after a unanimous decision of its executive body. He said that he had also filed nomination papers on NA-123 which were rejected on technical grounds and he would file an appeal against that decision of the ECP.
LHCBA arrangements for CJ’s welcome

LAHORE
THE Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) has completed arrangements to receive Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry who will visit Lahore on Saturday (today) on the invitation of the LHCBA and the LBA. According a press release issued on Friday, the LHCBA said that special security measures would be taken on this occasion. The LHCBA has also invited judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, retired judges, representatives of district bar associations, tehsil bar associations and bar councils. The statement further said that address of Chief Justice of Supreme Court of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will be commenced at 9pm.
Respite from loadshedding

The citizens will have a respite from the load shedding during the Friday night and on Saturday until the shortfall between the demand and supply raises. The LESCO Public Relation department said here on Friday night that the domestic feeders which were attached to furnaces’ feeders and independent feeders would be affected but there would be no load shedding on other domestic feeders. The shortfall between the demand and supply was 450MW on Friday night and there was possibility for it to go down further. It was also learnt that the load shedding duration in the suburbs of the provincial capital would be 8 hours.

PTI to move SC against polls delay

LAHORE
Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf has announced to challenge the judgment of Lahore High Court regarding postponement of by-polls in Punjab in the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Talking to journalists, PTI Lahore President Mian Mahmood Rasheed in a statement said they would challenge the judgment of the LHC in the Supreme Court. He termed the attitude of the ruling party in Punjab as undemocratic and condemnable for not conducting by-polls. He said they would fully participate in the by-polls whenever they were held.
Motion against misuse of funds

Deputy Opposition leader Yar Muhammad Hiraj has submitted an adjournment motion in the Assembly Secretariat against the misuse of funds for Katchi Abadis. He has claimed in the adjournment motion that the government was utilising the Asian Development fund and releasing tenders reserved for Katchi Abadis without consulting district supervisory committees. It was requested to the Speaker in the adjournment motion to adopt it and hold debate on it.
WWF-P gives away certificates to students

WWF-Pakistan at a ceremony gave away certificates to 40 students of a known local school system on Friday. According to a press release, Amir Mehmood, Manager Publications and Individual Membership Programme from WWF-Pakistan while giving a brief overview of the first-ever Internship Programme said it’s main objective was to increase capacity building of students for nature conservation. Afsa Babar, Head Career Guidance of the school system, BSS said such initiatives would serve as a means to raise awareness among the youth and general public about nature conservation and environmental education.
Journalist’s bike stolen

LAHORE
THE bike of a journalist was stolen from the Secretariat’s Baba Ground parking on Friday. Umair Aziz, a reporter of an English daily, parked his bike at about10:30 am in Baba Ground parking of the Secretariat. When he came out of the Secretariat after about two hours, his bike was stolen. He asked the security guards present in the parking lot but they expressed ignorance about the bike. Condemning the happening at such a sensitive place, the journalist has demanded the authorities concerned take action and get his bike recovered.
Four gamblers arrested

SHO Islampura Chaudhry Maqsood Gujjar raided gambling dens in his area and arrested four persons. It was learnt that some particular groups under the shelter of religion were running these dens and spoiling the social atmosphere of the area. People appreciated the move by the SHO and displayed banners in the area in his favor. Later, the alleged persons were released on bail. It was also learnt that some people in the area were manipulating for the transfer of the SHO but a large number of people decided to go to the CCPO to stop it.

Verification of doctors’ degrees ordered

DIRECTOR Health Services, Lahore Division, has directed the authorities for verification of degrees and diplomas of all the staff of the hospitals, warning that if documents of any employee were found bogus the official will be removed and a case of fraud will also be registered. Director Health Services Dr Umer Farooq Baloch issued these directions after it was known that an alleged non-qualified woman was appointed as gynecologist at DHQ Hospital, Kasur. He directed the Districts Officers (Health) of four districts Lahore, Sheikhupura, Nankana and Kasur to ensure verification of documents of all the staff serving at hospitals, rural health centres and basic health units operating under their respective jurisdiction.
