Police directed to keep check on workshops

LAHORE
CAPITAL City Police Officer (CCPO) Muhammad Pervez Rathore has directed the Lahore Police to keep a watchful eye on all workshops and mechanics in the city so that vehicles potentially to be used in the terrorists act are not repaired and their original color is not changed. He directed all the police stations located at various places to make effective planning at their own level to meet any emergency situation besides informing all the officers and jawans about their relevant duties so that no confusion was created in case of any terrorist act.

THE recording of eight selected Hamdia, Natia and Manqabat items of award winning writer and poetess, Syeda Henna Babar Ali, has been completed at digital fidelity studio Lahore. Henna Babar a celebrated English poet has written the lyrics in Urdu and composed the music herself. Traditional Eastern Instruments have been used with relevance to her poetry to create a soothing effect on the listener. The Kalam titled Raushan Kinara has been recorded in the voice of Sana Nur and will shortly be available on non-commercial basis throughout Pakistan and globally through her website hennababarali.com.
Sports Complex

PUNJAB Minister for Sports and Culture Dr. Tanveer-ul-Islam has announced constructing Sports Complex at the Punjab Institute of Mental Health and said that the Punjab Sports Board would take immediate measures in this regard. While addressing a function held at PIMH regarding World Mental Health Week on Thursday, he said that we all should play our positive role for the rehabilitation of psycho patients. The minister said that awareness should be created to ensure in-time medical treatment and avoid different social barriers in mental diseases. He inaugurated new kitchen at Mental Hospital donated by Babar Butt, a local trader. Earlier, Dr Nusrat Habib Rana, in her welcome address, said that 500 to 600 patients were kept in emergency.
Haj training
LAHORE: The Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Lahore is organizing a two day Haj Training programme for intending pilgrims from October, 10 and 11, 2009, at Defence Auditorium, R Block Phase - II. DHA Lahore Cantt - Lt Gen Ijaz Ahmed Bakshi, HI (M), Corps Commander Lahore will be the chief guest on the occassion. Dr. Hafiz Abdul Waheed Qureshi will deliver training lectures from 10am to 1pm on both days.

TWO deputy directors, Fisheries, have been promoted to the post of director, Fishers, grade 19. According to a notification, Fisheries Planning and Development Headquarters, Lahore, Deputy Director Tariq Hashmi has been promoted to the post of director, Fishers, and posted on a vacant post as a director, Hatchery Management. Sikandar Hayat has been posted as director, Fisheries, Research and Training, Punjab.
Distinction
A Pakistani heart surgeon in the US, Dr Farzad Najam, has won the first prize at the Bristol Medical Association (BMA) Medical Book Award held at BMA House London for his book on robotic surgery. Around 684 books were considered for the award.
Dry weather forecast

LAHORE
Dry weather will persist in the city on Friday (today), MET office said on Thursday. People braved another hot day on Thursday. Daily report of MET office said the maximum temperature in the city was recorded at 36 C while the minimum was recorded at 19 C. The humidity was 65 per cent in the morning and 22 per cent in the evening, it said. The MET office predicted a mainly dry weather over most parts of the country; however, isolated rains and thunderstorms may occur over Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Six-year jail for drug dealer

LAHORE
Six-year jail for drug dealer: Additional District and Sessions Judge Abid Rizwan Abid on Thursday awarded six years imprisonment to a drug dealer and imposed Rs.50,000 fine on him. Accused Basharat Ali was allegedly arrested with over five kg Charas by the Shalimar police in 2008. The court sentenced him jail after the accused defendants failed to prove him innocent.
