• Muftis issue edict for Qaza fast — The row over the sighting of the Eid-ul-Fitr moon took a new turn on Sunday as an edict (Fatwa) was issued by two Muftis belonging to Binnoria University International, decreeing that the faithful had to fast for another day after Eid in order to compensate the alleged delay in the start of Ramazan.
• Ramazan price survey— This Ramazan has seen a total failure on the part of the government to control prices in Karachi, and all claims and promises to curb overpricing of essential commodities have been futile, revealed a survey by The News.
• LG elections within 90 days of administrators’ appointment: Durrani— The Sindh government will hold local government (LG) elections within 90 days of administrators’ appointment, said Sindh Local Government Minister Agha Siraj Durrani.
• 10 Karachi picnickers drown off Gadani—Ten picnickers, mostly youngsters, on Tuesday drowned at sea off Gadani in Balochistan while eight others were rescued by lifeguards, police and rescuers said on Wednesday.
• Moon-sighting row—Chairman Central Reut-e-Hilal Committee, Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman lashed out at the Federal Railway Minister Ghulam Ahmed Bilour over the persisting moon-sighting controversy and said that the federal minister wanted to create another Fazallualh out of Shahabuddin Popalzai to save himself from the fallout of the Swat operation.
• DHA-Cogen continues to stand idle—The DHA-Cogen Power and Desalination Plant, which has been in a state of serious disrepair and has not been functioning for over a year, has missed yet another deadline of its repair and recommissioning.
• Ban on pillion riding lifted indefinitely—The ban on pillion riding has been indefinitely suspended by the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO), Waseem Ahmed. The ban was initially lifted by the Sindh Home Minister for a period of five days beginning the 27th of Ramazan.
• EU requirements regarding cleanlines—Authorities concerned have expedited efforts to meet EU requirements regarding cleanliness, boat modification and others, in preparation for an EU inspection team which is expected to visit the Karachi Fish Harbour (KFH) in October, official sources told The News.
