Iran hands over 10 Pakistanis to Taftan police
DALBANDIN: The Iranian border security force handed over 10 Pakistanis to the Taftan police here on Thursday. Police sources said these people had been arrested for entering Iran without legal travel documents and wanted to proceed to European countries in search of better employment opportunities. The police, after registering a Foreign Act case against them, handed them over to the FIA for further investigation.
CM Balochistan calls on air chief
ISLAMABAD: Chief Minister Balochistan, Nawab Muhammad Aslam Raeesani called on Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman at the Air Headquarters here on Thursday and shared views on matter of mutual interests.
Cop killed in encounter

CHARSADDA: A policeman was killed in an encounter in the jurisdiction of Battagram Police Station on Thursday. Official sources said a police party was on a routine patrol in Mirozai area when a group of outlaws, headed by Ziaur Rehman, opened fire on them. Head-constable Muhammad Saeed was shot dead in a bid to overpower Ziaur Rehman.
No evidence Osama in Pakistan: Kaira
ISLAMABAD: The government repeated on Thursday it had “no evidence” that al-Qaeda mastermind Osama bin Laden was in Pakistan. “Al-Qaeda and Taliban have threatened Pakistan, attacked our security forces, killing innocent civilians and targeted our
leadership,” said Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira in a statement. The statement from his office said there “is no evidence that Osama bin Laden is present in Pakistan” and that
“those making claims of his presence in the country should provide valid proof of it”.
Nationalist parties hold rally in Thatta

THATTA: A large number of activists of nationalist parties staged a demonstration on the National Highway here on Thursday to protest against settlement of outsiders in Sindh. The activists of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM), Jeay Sindh Mahaz (JSM), Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party (STPP) and Sindh United Party (SUP) as well as members of the civil society and various social welfare organisations participated in the demonstration, which blocked the traffic for about two hours.
FC demolishes houses in Khar

KHAR: In a joint action, political administration and security forces demolished the houses of two militant commanders and arrested six suspected insurgents in the Balolai village in the Khar subdivision on Thursday. The two militant commanders were identified as Malang and Hussain. Khar Tehsil Assistant Political Agent Iqbal Khattak and Bajaur Levies Commandant Iftikhar Ikram Cheema led the operation.
Three die on National Highway

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: Three people died here on Thursday when a speeding van hit a motorcycle on the National Highway in the Bhiria police limits. Police sources said Mazhar Kalhoro was going to Kandiaro along with his aunt and her two kids when they were hit by a speeding van. Mazhar Kalhoro, Ashraf Khatoon, Afroze (10), Waheed (9) and van driver Ghulam Shabir were seriously injured. Mazhar, Ashraf Khatoon and her daughter Afroze succumbed to their injuries.
Two killed in Nawabshah

NAWABSHAH: Two persons were killed, while one sustained injuries when a speeding car collided with a stationery trailer on the National Highway near Daulatpur Saffan town here on Thursday. Mahram Jamali and Mashooq Ali Brohi, who were riding the car, died on the spot, while car driver Kaleen Brohi sustained injuries.
Tribal elder escapes attempt on life

WANA: A tribal elder, Haji Yaqoob Khan, narrowly escaped an attempt on his life when his car was targeted by a remote-controlled bomb in Gangikhel area Thursday. The tribal elder and others on board the car remained unhurt in the attack, however, the wall of the nearby house was damaged in the explosion.
Nimra granted bail in murder case

LAHORE: Justice Khurshid Anwar Bhindar of Lahore High Court on Thursday granted a post-arrest bail to a local actress Nimra Chaudhry involved in a murder of a student leader Tariq Gujjar. Petitioner through her counsel submitted that she was wrongly implicated in the murder case as there was no cogent evidence against her.
Five terrorists arrested
SARGODHA: Police claimed to have arrested five terrorists from the railway station here on Thursday. A senior police officer confirmed the arrest of the terrorists. One of the suspects -- Omar Daraz -- belongs to Mianwali and is believed to have association with the al-Qaeda-linked Tehreek-e-Taliban, Punjab chapter.
ANF seizes 5,000 kg hashish
PESHAWAR: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has thwarted a bid to smuggle hashish, worth billions of rupees, here on the Peshawar-Bara Road and arrested one person. An ANF press release issued here on Thursday said that on a tip-off, an operation was conducted on the Peshawar-Bara Road near the Bara Qadeem police check-post and a truck was intercepted. On a detailed search, 5,000 kilograms of hashish was recovered that was concealed beneath the dry grass loaded in the truck. One drug-trafficker was arrested on the spot.
JI chief opposes fresh talks with India

Number of CNG stations crosses 3,000
ISLAMABAD: The number of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations in the country crossed 3,000 during the current fiscal year. Talking to Geo News, the Chairman of CNG Stations Owners Association, Malik Khuda Bux, said the number of CNG stations stood at 2,941 while 41 would be operational soon. He said 100 pumping stations had been issued licenses and they would start functioning soon. Khuda Bux said the number of CNG cars had risen to 2,191,000 while three to four percent increase had been recorded in CNG sale due to the spike in the price of petroleum products
Protest against transfer of DPO

KHAIRPUR: Citizens, traders and workers of different NGOs staged a protest here on Thursday against the transfer of the DPO Ghotki Javed Sonharo Jiskani. They said the DPO had brought the law and order under control by launching a major drive against the harbourers of criminals.
