| District officers of livestock issued show-cause notices |

HYDERABAD: Sindh Secretary Livestock Meer Mohammad Parhiyar has issued show-cause notices to four district officers of livestock due to their poor performance and asked them to improve their working while facilitating breeders, otherwise the strict disciplinary action would be taken.
He said this while presiding over a meeting of the officers of department at the livestock department, Shahbaz Building Hyderabad here on Wednesday. The meeting was called to review the implementation on decisions about reporting diseases in animals and adopting preventive measures in order to control new disease namely Pestis-de-Pestis Ruminants (PPR).
Mentioning the periodical report of 14-member field task force formed for monitoring the implementation on the decisions, the secretary issued show-cause notices to district livestock officers of Ghotki, Umerkot, Tando Mohammad Khan and Thatta for their poor performance and negligence in providing medicines, vaccinations and reporting the status of animals in their areas to the higher officers.
The secretary also constituted a separate supervising task force comprising the five directors of the department for monitoring and reporting activities of the 14-member task force and district officers activities with their recommendations to resolve the problems of the breeders.
Parhiyar said the government was taking keen interest in strengthening the livestock sector and delivering efficient services to the breeders. The government has earmarked an amount of Rs100 million extra in the annual budget to meet any kind of short-fall in the services and emergency. He directed the officers to ensure immediate supply of the medicines, vaccinations to each district and to identify their bottleneck if any, so that the same could be removed on priority basis.
Referring problems of shortage of officers and technical staff, the secretary said in addition to trainees of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Youth Development Programme, 28 reserve veterinary officers have also been assigned special duties of vaccination and animal treatment to control any outbreak of diseases during current monsoon season.
Later, talking to the media, the secretary said owing to quick step, the increasing trend of PPR disease has been controlled. He said mass vaccination at the epidemic areas has been launched. Besides the advance preventive steps have also been taken to protect the animals from diseases during the rainy season.
Answering a question, Parhiyar said the animal oriented organizations, NGOs have been assigned tasks so that there may be no overlapping in their services.
DG Livestock Ghulam Mohammad Mahar, Director Animal Husbandry Ghulam Sarwar Shaikh and other officers of the department attended the meeting and briefed the secretary about implementation on the department decision.
