Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were inked between Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (RCCI) and five universities of the region to create permanent association among academia and industry in the field of research and development.
The universities bonded in the MoUs are Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (AAUR), Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU), Heavy Industries Taxila Education City (HITEC), Muhammad Ali Jinnah University (MAJU) and Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science & Technology (SZABIST).
The MoUs would provide an opportunity to the industry as well as academia to join hands in the field of research, which would benefit both. The industry would take advantage according to the marketing requirements while students of these institutions would make use of the experience in terms of firsthand technical know-how about the working and making of future business strategies.
The signing ceremony was held here at the RCCI premises, attended by Vice Chancellor AAUR Dr Khalid Mehmood Khan, VC FJWU Dr Saeeda Asad Ullah Khan and VC HITEC University Taxila Brig (r) Qamar Zaman along with Head Business Administration Department MAJU Ansar Ali Rajput and Deputy Director SZABIST Syed Asad Ali, who all signed the MoUs on behalf of the academia while President RCCI Syed Asad Mashadi was the signatory on behalf of the Chamber.
The RCCI president on the occasion said it is a dire need since long to bridge the gap between the industry and academia, adding that a mechanism would be crafted jointly by RCCI and the universities for a proper follow up of the MoUs in future. He said to excel in industrial growth, production and exports, a good relationship between the industry and research organisations is very imperative, as without research, no development could be made at any level.
The AAUR, FJWU and HITEC VCs termed the MoUs as a hallmark that would produce good results for the country in the time to come, adding that RCCI should identify the fields according to the industry needs to carry out specific research work instead of wasting time and resources on useless work. “The collaboration of industry and research base education will not only improve the quality of our products but will also bring revolutionary changes in the country’s educational system,” they added.
Former presidents, members of RCCI executive committee and faculty of the mentioned universities also attended the signing ceremony.
