1,000MW power import from Tajikistan under process
Tuesday, July 21, 2009
ISLAMABAD: Tajik Minister for Energy and Industry Gul Sherali said on Monday Tajikistan was expediting the process for exporting 1,000MW electricity to Pakistan under CASA-1000 project.

At a meeting with Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervez Ashraf, the Tajik minister stressed the need for cooperation in other economic fields. The two discussed various matters of economic cooperation. The Tajik minister said Tajikistan and Pakistan shared strong cultural, historical and spiritual ties.

He said Tajikistan would continue supporting Pakistan in its war against terror, adding terrorism was a crime against humanity, peace and state, and a conspiracy against Islam. Ashraf said the warm and cordial relations that existed between the two countries provided a good basis for further enhancing economic cooperation.

He said the government was keen to reinforce the existing ties of friendship with Tajikistan and identify new areas of cooperation. He said Pakistan needed early finalisation of Preferential Trade Agreement and bilateral agreement on International Transport of Passengers and Goods by Road.
