The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) Police have busted a seven-member racket of criminals who were involved in dacoities and highway robberies after an encounter near Darbar Pir Sohawa and also recovered arms and ammunition from their possession, the police said.

The gang was active in the jurisdiction of Shahzad Town and Koral police stations for the last two months. The gangsters looted houses in different areas and also created harassment among the public by committing highway robberies.

Upon this the police high ups had assigned the task to CIA Islamabad’s DSP who deputed a team comprising Inspector Sarfraz Ahmad, ASI Asif Shah with police personnel to net the gang. On Friday night when the team was on surveillance near Darbar of Pir Sohawa, the suspects also assembled there. When the police team reached the scene and attempted to apprehend them, the gangsters started firing at the police. The police team also retaliated and returned the fire.

After a brief encounter, the team overpowered the accused and succeeded in disarming them. The gangsters were later identified as Sartaj, son of Khaista Rehman of Charsada; Hazrat Saeed, son of Aitbar (Takht Bhai); Hamid Gul, son of Taza Gul (Afghanistan); Naseer Hashmi, son of Qasim Hashmi (North Waziristan); Samar Gul, son of Qamar Ali (Charsadda) and Umar Ali, son of Rahim Dad (Sawabi).

During their body search, police recovered five loaded pistols from their possession. The police said that the gangsters confessed commission of 18 dacoities in the area of Shahzad Town and Koral police stations. One suspects, Hazrat Saeed was wanted to Shahzad Town Police in six cases of murder and dacoities. Further investigation is under way.

The IGP and SSP Islamabad appreciated the police teams and also awarded certificates and prizes to them.
