The situation in Social Security Hospital remained tense on Saturday following sacking of as many as 46 employees of Islamabad Medical and Dental College affiliated with the hospital.
Subedar Nayar and Nurse Noreen Catherine, two of the sacked employees, while talking to ‘The News’ held the Medical Superintendent Captain (r) Imran and the assistant medical superintendent responsible for the move. One of the former chief of the Social Security Hospital, Brigadier (r) Nurul Hassan also blamed the present MS for termination of 46 employees who had assumed the charge of his office a couple of weeks ago.
According to Nurul Hassan, Subedar (r) Nayar, Noreen Catherine and other affectees, Captain (r) Imran was terminated in the past. However, immediately after his reinstatement Imran terminated 46 employees of the Islamabad Medical and Dental College. According to an agreement, the chief of Social Security Hospital enjoys the power and authority of hiring and firing the employees of the Dental College, said Brigadier (r) Nurul Hassan.
The recent move by the present MS and AMS has tensed the situation in Social Security Hospital and the Islamabad Medical and Dental College. The serving staff of both departments are confused and tense and fear losing their jobs.
According to Brigadier (r) Nurul Hassan and sacked employees, the MS has appointed head sweeper as incharge of the security department of the hospital and Islamabad Medical and Dental College after terminating the employees. Why the MS has taken this step, they questioned.
The affectees have formed an association to tackle the issue effectively. Subedar Nayar said that they would approach the heads of the federal government to bring into the notice of the concerned minister and authorities about the high-handedness of the MS. They have demanded of the federal government to look into the matter and direct the MS for reinstating the sacked employees immediately otherwise protest movement would be launched till the removal of the MS and reinstatement of sacked employees, said Nayar.
MS Captain (r) Imran while confirming the termination of 46 employees of the Dental College termed his decision correct. First of all the staff was surplus in the college. Secondly, complaints were received against them about their involvement in irregularities made by the high ups of the college. A list of the sacked workers was given by the high ups of the Dental College.
“I took the decision in the best interest of the department. Such staff or members should not serve in any department. The record of the sacked employees was very poor,” he said. About Brigadier (r) Nurul Hassan, the MS said that his appointment was illegal. Being a retired army official, how could he become the chief executive of any department including Social Security Hospital, he said. He had appointed all such staff members who were involved in irregularities, the MS alleged.
