 Deal gets first blow
2 more shot dead in DI Khan

Sunday, July 05, 2009
Our correspondent

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Unidentified motorcycle riders shot dead two persons, including a local leader of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), here on Saturday, apparently in a bid to sabotage the peace agreement brokered by the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and signed by the rival communities a day earlier.

The first incident happened near Imamia Gate where unidentified bike riders gunned down a PPP leader, Farhan Baloch.

In the second incident early in the morning, Rajab Ali was shot dead by unidentified assailants while he was on way to vegetable market near Commissionary Bazaar.

Sources said after the twin incidents of the killing, firing was heard from various pockets of the city and the violent persons tried to close down the markets forcedly. However, the district police did not let them close the markets.

The incidents demoralized the peace-loving residents who thought that harmony would prevail in the sectarian-torn city after the peace deal was signed between the rival communities Friday night.

It may be added here that the peace committee headed by the JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman effected an agreement about durable peace in the area on Friday.
