LAHORE
EXPERTS have emphasised that surveillance system should be improved for controlling polio especially in the southern Punjab and an effective system be evolved for collection of data and timely reporting of polio cases with the help of general practitioners and traditional health providers.
This was observed by the participants of a workshop comprising officers of Punjab Health Department and World Health Organisation held here on Saturday for evolving a strategy and formulation of recommendations for the control of polio cases in southern Punjab.
Dr Ahmad Darwesh, Dr Debra of WHO, Dr Rana Mushtaq of UNICEF, Punjab Health Director General Dr Muhammad Aslam Chaudhry, Director Health (EPI) Dr Arshad Iqbal Dar, Dr Azhar Masood Bhatti, EDOs (Health) and District surveillance officers of Rajanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rahimyar Khan, Multan, Muzaffargarh, Lodhran and Bahawalpur districts also attended the workshop and submitted their reports regarding polio cases.
It was unanimously agreed that there was a dire need for creating awareness among the masses and parents through lady health workers and lady health visitors about importance of vaccination of children against polio.
