LAHORE
TRANSPORT owners on Saturday held a protest demonstration at Badami Bagh bus stand against rising POL prices, terming it a deathblow to their businesses.
Protestors consisting of owners and workers of various transport companies held placards. Placards were inscribed with slogans demanding the government take back the decision to increase POL prices. They chanted anti-government slogans, condemning the government for its apathy and it lack of concern for misery of the people.
They said that transport sector was already suffering due to the government’s lack of support. They said the spending power of the people who use their public transport was diminishing due to inflation and they were working with a very small margin of profit.
They said POL prices in the world market had once again fallen below $70 per barrel but the government instead of giving relief to the people had burdened them further.
Protestors appealed to Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry to take notice of this action and force the government to decrease POL prices.
