| Judge comes down hard on two policewomen |

Additional District and Sessions Judge (South) Nizar Ali Khawaja ordered the detention and the removal of the badges of two policewomen for causing a delay in the production of a suspect in the court.
However, on the request of Deputy District Public Prosecutor Abdul Maroof, the court showed leniency and withdrew the orders.
Sub Inspector (SI) Ghazala and Investigation Officer (IO) Shagufta were to produce a suspect allegedly involved in injuring his sister-in-law some nine years ago.
Zia Ahmed was booked by the Aziz Bhatti police station. He remained absconding for nine years. The Aziz Bhatti police arrested him two days ago and handed him over to the women’s police station for further investigation.
The female police officers were to produce him in court on Friday but they showed their inability on the plea of shortage of time. When they produced Zia Ahmed on Saturday, the judge questioned them about the 24-hour delay and asked why their badges should not be removed and they be sent to the women’s jail. The matter was later compromised by DDPP Maroof who said that the police officials may be forgiven since they had admitted their mistake. The court withdrew its orders.
Mumtaz Bhutto case hearing adjourned: Judicial Magistrate (South) Syed Nadeem Hussain Shah adjourned till July 18, the hearing of a case against Mumtaz Ali Bhutto, regarding the ransacking of a Sindhi newspaper office.
Two of the accused, Anwer Gujjar and Ameer Gurio, were present in the court. Mumtaz Bhutto has already sought an exemption from personal appearance from the Sindh High Court (SHC).
