Lahore traders observe strike against power shortage
Sunday, July 05, 2009
LAHORE: Traders observed a shutter-down strike here on Saturday against electricity shortage, increase in petroleum prices and price rise.

The Anjuman-e-Tajiraan Pakistan and other trade bodies gave a strike call for a shutter-down and an announcement was made urging traders to keep commercial and business centres closed on Saturday.

Trade centres in Mall Road, Hall Road, Brandreth Road, McLeod Road, Anarkali and Ferozpur Road remained close except hotels, eating-houses, vegetables and fruits shops. Traders also staged protest demonstrations on Hall Road, Mall Road and Kot Lakhpat.

Protesters carried banners and posters with slogans against the government and WAPDA inscribed on them. They also put up banners on Mall Road and adjoining markets against increase in power tariff, load-shedding and hike in petroleum prices.
