| Steps on to alleviate poverty, says Shahbaz |

LAHORE
PUNJAB Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said the government is taking solid measures for elimination of poverty, backwardness and unemployment and all resources are being utilized for development of the province and welfare of the people.
The CM expressed these views in a meeting with assembly members from various districts at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat on Friday. Senior Adviser Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa, Chairman Taskforce Khawaja Ahmad Hasaan, Dr Tahir Ali Javed, Saba Sadiq, Chaudhry Muhammad Arshad and Dr Mukhtar Ahmad Bharat were present there.
The CM said priority has been given in the provincial budget to raising the standard of living of the people and provision of basic facilities to them. He said public transport system was being improved to provide better transport facilities to the people and transport companies were being established in all major cities of the province on the pattern of the Lahore Transport Company. He said that revolutionary steps had been taken for the uplift of the education sector. He said that besides ensuring transparency of examination system, merit has been upheld in the recruitment of teachers in the education department.
The CM said that despite financial problems and limited resources, the Punjab government had presented a welfare budget in which priority has been given to the provision of basic amenities to the citizens. He said that a comprehensive strategy has been adopted for the development of backward areas and huge funds have been allocated to that end.
He said projects that would help eliminate poverty, ignorance and unemployment had been included in the Annual Development Programme. He said that maintenance of law and order was the top priority of the government and the efficiency of law-enforcing agencies was being improved.
He said that financial assistance will continue to be provided to the poor and destitute persons under the Food Support Programme and children of such families will be imparted various skills. For this purpose, he said, the TEVTA has been reorganized and an amount of Rs 2 billion 30 crore has been allocated in the budget for this institution.
The CM said the Food Support Programme was being made transparent while Sasti Roti Schme was also being expanded.
