 Landslide kills two miners

NOWSHERA: Two miners were killed and three others seriously injured at the Pir Sabaq hills when a huge mass of mud and rocks fell on the labourers busy in digging, sources said.

At the time of the incident more than 25 labourers were busy in digging the mountain. The gigantic landslide also damaged two tractor trolleys. Hundreds of locals rushed to the spot and joined the rescue efforts.

The injured were shifted to the District Headquarter Hospital where condition of one miner was said to be critical. The deceased miners were identified as Sabir son of Sher Mohammad and Sher Wali son of Qaiser Khan.

Six children, old dependent parents and a widow will mourn the death of Sabir while Sher Wali left behind three children and a wife. The three injured were identified as Hassan Khan son of Muzzamil, Murad son of Amroze and Faizur Rahman son of Mehfoozur Rahman.

According to Mines Labour Law, in case of death the family of the deceased should be given Rs0.2 million while lease-holder would pay Rs75,000 and owner of the mine would pay Rs15,000 to the family apart from sharing responsibility of the medical expenses. The injured should be paid Rs50,000 while seriously injured would be given Rs0.1 million.
