A seasoned bureaucrat of Grade-21, Imtiaz Inayat Elahi, took over the charge of the office of the Chairman of Capital Development Authority (CDA) after the Establishment Division issued notification of his transfer from the Environment Ministry, where he was working as Additional Secretary.
Elahi has replaced Tariq Mahmood Khan, a Grade-20 officer, who has been directed to report to the Establishment Division. It will be after at least six years that a senior bureaucrat of Grade-21 has assumed the charge of the office of the Chairman of the authority. Kamran Lashari, the CDA Chairman before Tariq Mahmood Khan, joined the authority when he was still in Grade-20 but was later promoted to Grade-21 while he was still in the office.
Imtiaz Inayat Elahi, after assuming the charge of the office on Wednesday held an ‘introductory meeting’ with the CDA Board Members and other senior officials. Already having served as the Director-General (Environment) in the CDA for a long time from 1996 to 2002, the new Chairman is no stranger to the set up and working of the authority.
During his previous stay in the CDA as Director General (Environment), Elahi brought about many noticeable changes in the Federal Capital by introducing the idea and establishing the first ever ‘Melody Food Park’, establishment of Flower Markets, the widening and beautification of roundabouts, improvement of parks, lying of jogging and walking tracks, initiation of landscaping of various spots, and involving private/corporate sector to join hands with CDA for the beautification of the city and improvement in the working of the Municipal Services.
In his meeting today (Wednesday) he stressed that the progress and development of the city, especially sectors, which has gone neglected in the past, as well as the provision of basic amenities of life to the citizens should be the top priority.
“We need to pay attention to water conservation and improvement of environment will be our priorities,” he told the officers in the meeting.
He said that he would be needing support of senior CDA officers in all the matters to make CDA a modern civic and development agency and to meet the challenges ahead, which are required to be tackled as per aspiration of the citizens. He also stressed upon the need for organising ‘khuli kutcheries’ and re-activation of ‘sectors citizens committees’, something that would help carry out the development activities at a faster pace.
Imtiaz Inayat Elahi belongs to an eminent family of jurists. His father (late) was the Senior Justice of Peshawar High Court. He has a reputed business and industrial background. Before joining Civil Services, he has been looking after his family business namely Ilahi Sons Electric Bulb Manufacturers Company and Ilahi Group of Industries as Director.
The representatives of office bearers of different organisations of Pakistan People’s Party, business community, traders and welfare association and people from cross-section of the society called on him and welcomed his posting as chairman CDA and assured him of their full support and cooperation.
