Saturday, May 23, 2009
By our correspondent

HYDERABAD: Glowing tributes were paid to peasant leader Hyder Bux Jatoi on his death anniversary, organised under the aegis of the Sindh Hari Committee (SHC), and a resolution adopted on the occasion demanded stopping the internally displaced persons’ entry into Sindh.

Hyder Bux Jatoi is the founder of peasant movement and played an important role for the passage of the Tenancy Act of 1950 from the Sindh Assembly. The leaders of different political as well as nationalist parties attended the ceremony that continued till late Thursday night in Kalhora Colony.

Speakers included SHC president Azhar Jatoi, Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party chief Dr Qadir Magsi, Awami Tahreek chief Rasool Bux Palijo, Saleem Zia of PML-N, Jam Saqi, Shah Mohammed Shah and others.

The meeting passed various resolutions, including one that demanded that IDPs should not be allowed to enter Sindh and should be kept in the NWFP. Another resolution called upon the government to initiate land reforms programme and distribute lands among landless peasants. Amendments should be made to the Tenancy Act of 1950, it said. The speakers lashed out at the policies of the PPP government and demanded its resignation for welcoming the IDPs of the Malakand Division in Sindh.
