Home minister orders action against land mafia

Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Ali Mirza instructed Provincial Police Officer (PPO) Sindh Sultan Salahuddin Babar Khattak to ensure strict action against the masterminds of the land mafia in Karachi. He said action would also be taken against police officials collaborating with the land grabbers or playing a role as their agents. He warned such officials of stern departmental action. Mirza issued these directives while taking notice of a news item about some police officials allegedly involved in patronising land grabbers to mint money. He asked the PPO Sindh to ensure immediate legal action against such police personnel and land grabbers.
Reference for Dr Dani

A reference in memory of renowned archaeologist, linguist and historian Dr Ahmed Hasan Dani, who died on January 26, was held at the University of Karachi (KU) on Monday. The ceremony recalled the services of Dr Dani in his chosen fields that brought laurels to Pakistan. He was associated with discoveries at Moenjodaro, Gandhara, Northern Areas, Thatta and Gomla in Dera Ismail Khan, while his search for the similarities between Central Asia and present-day Pakistan opened new vistas of the knowledge in archaeology and history. The condolence reference was organised by Dr Syed Jafar Ahmed, Professor of the Institute of Central and West Asian Studies (ICWAS). Former Director General Archaeological Department, Prof. Sharif ul Mujahid, Dr Ansar Zahid Khan, Dr Javed Hasan and Prof. Nargis Rashid spoke at the occasion.
Beena Sarwar’s ‘Mukhtiar Mai’ wins at JIFF
‘Mukhtiar Mai,’ a documentary directed by Beena Sarwar from Karachi, was awarded the Best Documentary Film at the first Jaipur International Film Festival (JIFF) 2009. The festival ended Sunday evening at Jaipur, India.Awards were given to other films as well in the closing ceremony at Film Bhawan after a special screening of Bawandar (a film by Jagmohan Mundhra).
Mini-zoo in Gulshan

Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town Nazim Muhammad Wasay Jalil laid the foundation stone on Monday for a mini-zoo in Rizwan Park, Union Council (UC) 6.Jalil said that recreational places were essential for increasing the mental and physical prowess of children.
