LAHORE

THE Lahore Development Authority (LDA) continued its anti-encroachment drive on Monday and demolished dozens of structures from Hussain Chowk to Mini Market, Gulberg, as well as along the left side of MM Alam Road.

During the jointly carried out operation, the staff of the Town Planning Wing and Estate Management Directorate of LDA demolished 33 structures that had been illegally built along MM Alam Road, Gulberg.

The Lahore Development Authority staff razed a number of platforms that had been constructed in front line of restaurants and shops, in violation of building regulations. All these encroachments were causing difficulties in movement of pedestrians, flow of traffic as well as quick disposal of rainwater from the market.

The LDA’s drive was going on in its scheme area and utility area of private housing schemes. The LDA urged the residents of its schemes’ area for voluntarily eliminate all encroachments without further delay otherwise they would also have to bear the demolition charges as well. The encroachers will also be dealt under the sections 33, 34 and 40 of LDA Act 1975.

Meanwhile, residents and public representatives of Township urged the authority to immediately start an anti encroachment operation on Abu Bakar Road, Township. They also demanded establishment of an anti encroachment camp in the area so that speedy action could be taken against the encroachers in the future.

They said that Madina Market in Township was full of encroachments and majority of the shopkeepers had rented out the outer space of their shops for erecting makeshift stalls which encroached upon roads leaving very small space for the shoppers especially women. They said that vegetable and fruit sellers had also encroachment upon Main Market, Township.

Anjum-e-Tajiran Abu Bakar Road President while talking with The News said that they had repeatedly asked the LDA to take action against these encroachers but no drive had been launched so far in the area.
