Artificial limbs for the needy

LAHORE
HOPE Rehabilitation Society has distributed artificial limbs among needy amputees under the project ‘Limbs for All’ here on Wednesday at Hope Rehabilitation Center. According to a press statement Justice (r) Amer Raza Khan,Nazim Wagha Town Khalid Ghurki and Rotary Club’s District Governor North Shehzad Ahmed distributed the limbs.Hope Society President Dr Khalid Niazi during his address said ‘Limbs for All’ project was inaugurated in the holy month of Ramadan and some 50 amputees have been registered under this project. He said on providing the artificial limbs to 20 disabled persons Society has spent Rs 500,000 and this project would continue on permanent basis with the cooperation of philanthropists.Rotary Club announced Rs 2,50,000 donation for the project.
Play at GCU

LAHORE
THE Government College University Dramatics Club staged a play, Be saya log, an Urdu rendition of Sartre’s Men Without Shadows, in Bokhari Auditorium of the varsity on Wednesday. The play depicts the effects of war on people when life, purpose and human identity becomes a question for them and how the decisions they make under pressure. The cast in the play included Madiha Gul, Mohsin Manzoor, Moosa Abbas, Rizwan Mehdi, Fahad Lodhi, Shahiq Ali Khan, Usman Butt, Amer Raza Khan, Faizan Ahmed, Sheharyar Cheema and Hamza Khaliq. Dr Farhan Ebadat Yar and GCU Dramatics Club In Charge Madiha Gul directed the play.
Journalists protest detention of shoe-thrower
LAHORE
AROUND 200 people demonstrated here on Wednesday against the detention of an Iraqi reporter for hurling his shoes at US President George W.Bush. Muntazer al-Zaidi,29, grabbed the world spotlight when he threw his shoes at Bush during a press conference in a gesture seen as the supreme mark of disrespect in the Muslim world. Around 150 journalists also demonstrated outside the press club here on Wednesday to demand the release of Zaidi,who risks up to seven years in jail under the Iraqi law. The Iraqi television reporter was swiftly wrestled to the ground after the incident was beaten by security guards, suffering a broken arm and ribs. “We condemn torture on Muntazer al-Zaidi and demand his immediate release and we also express our solidarity with him”said protester Nasir Naqvi.

THE investigation police Naseerabad on Wednesday arrested a man for being involved in street crime and recovered booty and illicit weapons from him. The accused, identified as Muhammad Rizwan, confessed to coming various crimes in the Naseerabad police limits.
CDGL flayed for razing mosque, quarters

LAHORE
JAMAAT-E-ISLAMI condemned the City District Government Lahore (CDGL) for demolishing a small mosque and quarters of poor workers of Civil Officers Mess at GOR-1. A press statement issued on Wednesday from Jamaat-e-Islami Office said that some homeless people met with JI office-bearers and informed them about the incident. They said that Chief Secretary not only captured the land of the mosque but also obstructed the way to a girls’ high school for extension of the lawn of his house. JI office-bearer Ammer-ul-Azam condemned this action which was taken on directions of chief secretary. Ammer-ul-Azam asked the chief minister to take notice of it.
