Basant not yet scheduled

THE basant festival has not yet scheduled owing to a terror threat, legal requirements and lack of the government’s interest.Talking to tour operators and travel agents of the city, Lahore Basant Festival Organiser Syed Zulfiqar Hussain said Friday that use of chemical twine, dangerous kite-flying trends and some other factors had spoilt the public festival. “I have always tried to promote a soft image of the country by promoting this mega festival around the globe to increase trade activities thus supporting thousands of families,” he said. “Basant can help promote a good image of the country,” he claimed and said that he had worked hard in collaboration with provincial and district governments to minimise basant-related incidents.
Factory burnt

LAHORE
A FIRE broke out in a cardboard factory in the Nawankot area on Friday and goods worth lakhs of rupees were burnt. The cause of the fire was stated to be a short-circuit. Fire fighters extinguished the fire after five hours’ hectic efforts. A security guard of the factory fainted while trying to put out the blaze. Rescue 1122, Edhi ambulances and police rushed to the scene. The factor at Battery Stop, Nawankot, was owned by Yousaf. The fire also engulfed the second floor of a neighbouring house, burning household items worth thousands of rupees.
Husband kills pregnant wife

LAHORE
A pregnant woman was strangled by her husband in Mughalpura on Friday. Sobia, 21, was a resident of Sabzi Mandi in Jameel Park, Mughalpura. She had contracted a love marriage with Master Akbar seven months ago and started living with her in-laws. She got involved in disputes with in-laws over minor issues few weeks after marriage. Thursday night, Sobia was found hanging. Akbar’s family informed her parents that she had commited suicide who called out police and charged her in-laws with torturing and murdering her. Mughalpura police registered a murder case and arrested her husband Master Akbar. Arif told the police that his sister had married Master Akber at her own will and her family had not given her dowry. Her in-laws used to taunt her over this issue. He said her husband used to demand Rs 200,000 from her for dowry items. He said he also found torture marks on her body.
