| SIUT soon to have tumour-detecting technology |

A PET CT Scan, an advanced technology, which detects tumors and their spread at a very early stage, will be installed soon at the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT), Dr. Shabbir Naeem of the SIUT said while describing the benefits of PET CT Scan.
He said this during a two-day course on Paediatric Nephrology which started on Wednesday at the SIUT in collaboration with the International Paediatric Transplantation Association and International Paediatric Nephrology Association.
The course was attended by nephrologists and pediatricians from all provinces of the country. The Childhood Nephrotic Syndrome and its treatment with cortisone were discussed at length, while the other topics of the workshop included stone disease in children and congenital abnormalities of the kidneys and the bladder.
The symposium will be inaugurated on Thursday 23rd October by Dr Mehmet Haberal, founder-president of Middle Eastern Society of Transplantation. The main scientific sessions will start on Friday October 24 at the SIUT.
Dr Magdi Shehata, consultant Laparoscopic Surgeon of Nottingham University Hospital, UK spoke on the advantages of removing the kidney from a living donor for transplantation through laparoscope. She said the advantages of laparoscopic donor nephrectomy were enumerated as a short hospital stay, less pain after the operation, early return to work and no post-operative complications and low cost.
Dr Sarwat Hussain described the new techniques of Coronary Artery CT Angiography and the principles of Multi-Detector CT. This would provide an insight into the management of arterial blockades of the coronaries without interventional angiography, he said.
Dr Tauqir Rana spoke on management of Peripheral Vascular Disease, a disorder commonly found in Pakistan. He said with the high prevalence of diabetes in Pakistan and the neighboring countries, its complication of peripheral vascular disease mainly of the legs, are frequently encountered.
