I refer to a letter "Lal Masjid violence" by Sadia Butt published in your newspaper on July 21. The letter is based on misconceptions about the role of PML president Chaudhry Shujat Hussain during the Lal Masjid crisis.
At no stage during the crisis was Chaudhry sahib trying to protect any of the extremists. His only concern was to preserve and protect the lives of the women and children who were in the Lal Masjid compound. Therefore, his primary focus during the difficult negotiations on this tricky issue was to ensure the safety and security of the innocent people. This is to set the record straight so that any future factual inaccuracy is avoided.
