Kashmiris to become part of Indo-Pak talks
Thursday, May 22, 2008
ISLAMABAD: The All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC) (Pakistan chapter) said on Wednesday that Kashmiris would be included in the Pak-India dialogue in due course of time to resolve the Kashmir issue.

Reacting to the ongoing Pak-India talks in Islamabad, the APHC Convener Syed Yousaf Naseem told The News that the Kashmiris had been assured by the new government in Islamabad of their participation in the parleys.

Referring to Kashmiri representatives' meetings with Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, he said that they looked forward to joining the Pak-India talks as a party to the dispute.

About the APHC's expectations, he said that the people of Kashmir were confident that the present government would continue its efforts to restore normalcy in occupied Kashmir. He said that the dialogue would make progress and lay foundation for the realisation of the Kashmiris' right to self-determination.

Asked what type of solution to the issue the Pakistan government was pursuing in talks with India, he said that they had been assured by the new leadership in Pakistan that no solution contrary to the aspirations of the Kashmiris would be sought or be acceptable to them.

"The United Nations Security Council resolutions lay a solid foundation for the grant of right to self-determination to Kashmiris and this is the ultimate objective of Pakistan as well as the Kashmiri leadership," he maintained.

About the future course of action, he made it clear that all the Kashmiri organisations, both political and armed, would stick to their policies. He explained that Kashmiris would welcome confidence-building measures, but at the same time, political movement and the armed struggle would continue.
