SC directs ministry to send bill on safe medicines to Senate
Friday, May 16, 2008
ISLAMABAD: A full bench of the Supreme Court (SC) has directed the Ministry of Health to send bill on safe medicines to the Senate by Monday.

These directives were issued during the hearing in a suo moto case taken up earlier by the deposed Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, in connection with formulation of viable and firm policy by government on safe medicines.

Syed Sharifuddin Pirzada and Dr Babar Awan assisted the court. The SC was informed by the health ministry that Homeopathic, Herbal and Non-allopathic Medicines Act, which was presented in the National Assembly (NA) in 2005 and was later sent to the cabinet committee, had become time-barred while lying with the committee. The hearing in the case was adjourned till Tuesday next.
