Hundreds of people of various villages Sunday held a peaceful demonstration to press their demand of reconstruction and repair work on Kahuta-Karot Road.
People including school children and women gathered at three different villages that are Karot, Jhandi and Dupri to put forward their longstanding demand of widening, construction and repair of dilapidated Kahuta-Karot Road before the new government.
They were carrying placards inscribed with slogans in favour of construction of road and demanded from provincial and federal governments to release funds and start reconstruction work. Kahuta-Karot Road was first constructed twenty years ago and since then no repair work was carried out. People said that they were travelling on dangerous and dilapidated road for the last several years.
Caretaker Punjab Minister for Communication and Works Mubasher Luqmen inaugurated widening and improvement work of this road in December last year, but reconstruction work was stopped due to elections.
People alleged that inauguration was mere an eyewash to lure voters in elections.
A notable of the area Brigadier (r) Javed Ahmed Satti told media team, which was specially invited to cover the event that two fourth population of Azad Jammu Kashmir and Rawalpindi district use this road for communication and about four thousands vehicles passes through this road daily.
He said that reconstruction of this strategic road was not only demand of people, but it is important defence road, which link capital with Kotli and Nankiyal sector in AJK.
People said that now it was a risky task to shift sick people to Kahuta or Rawalpindi for treatment keeping in view the damaged road. Besides, student waste precious time while reaching their colleges due to snail pace movement of traffic.
They warned that if their demand was not met in one month, they would hold protest demonstration in front of the parliament house.
