KARACHI: A larger bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry resumed hearing Karachi law and order case Thursday where a list of political activists involved in criminal activities was presented before the court, Geo News reported.
During today’s proceedings, police presented a report before the bench having the list of political parties workers who were involved in various crimes. According to the report, 208 target killers and 258 extortionists were arrested from Karachi after October 6, 2011 while 351 cases were registered against 224 activists on the charges of murder, robbery and possessing illegal arms.
The report also stated that out of the 208 arrested target killers, 81 are from MQM, 38 from Sunni Tehreek, 27 from TTP, 17 Lyari gang war groups, 13 ANP, 6 from Peoples' Aman Committee and 9 are from Tehreek-e-Insaaf.
The report has included the banned TTP, Jindallah and Lyari gang war groups among the political parties.
It was also reported that 20,428 accused were arrested and challans of 240 cases were presented in the court.
Police raided 45,535 times and arrested 268 extortionists who were involved in 338 extortion cases while the challans of 152 were presented in the court.
