KHAIRPUR: A stampede after Pir of Pagara, Sibghatullah Shah Rashdi’s public appearance at Dargah Sharif resulted in the deaths of at least eight people here in Pir Jo Goth, Geo News reported.
According to Jan Mohammad Mangrio, the head of shrine’s administration in Pir Jo Goth near Khairpur, the tragedy unfolded when thousands of Hurs, the followers of Pir of Pagara, were leaving Dargah’s premises after feasting their eyes on their spiritual leader’s divine visage.
“It was too hot and humid, suffocation led to most of the deaths in the wake of a sudden stampede, some received serious injuries after they were trampled over by the crowd”, he said.
The bodies of the eight dead have been sent to their hometowns for burial, Mangrio confirmed.
Dozens of injured were rushed to the hospitals but were denied adequate treatment, he alleged going forward.
