KARACHI: A huge scam involving purchase of drugs worth Rs1 billion in Sindh district governments has been unearthed, Geo News reported.

An audit report for FY12 revealed that district governments of Sindh have bought medicines worth one billion rupees, which have not been verified by the central or provincial drug laboratories

A notification issued in 2006 by the health department of Sindh stated that no medicine could be purchased without obtaining a drug test report from the provincial and federal drug testing laboratories.

Despite the notification 23 districts of Sindh bought uncertified medicines putting the life of patients in danger.

Some of the districts failed to even submit tenders for the transactions.
