ISLAMABAD: Dr. Asim Hussain Advisor to the Prime Minister on Petroleum and Natural Resources has said that the country needs to enhance gas supply to various sectors and in this regard is pursuing the LNG import project.

He said this while chairing the first meeting of the Committee on LNG Infrastructure Projects constituted by the Prime Minister, that was also attended by other committee members including Minister Water and Power, Secretary Finance, Secretary Water and Power, representatives of Ministry of Law and Justice, Gohar Ejaz, Razak Dawood, Ahsan Bashir Chairman APTAMA and senior officers of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources.

The committee members were briefed on the LNG import project and the previous decisions of ECC on the issue.

Detailed discussions were held on the framework for import of LNG including Fast-track Imports and the Long Term Import components.

Committee Members unanimously agreed that LNG import projects are necessary keeping in view the current energy crisis in the country.

The committee was of the view that SNGPL - SSGC joint venture company should be established with major shareholding of the Federal Government that should undertake the infrastructure development for the LNG import. Moreover, it was also recommended that the import initiatives already undertaken by SSGC are to run parallel to infrastructure development so that LNG could be imported as early as possible. The Supreme Court of Pakistan take a note of this new rental power scam to make billions - Please keep watching this and chanllenge it. Can the poor people afford the new imported energy cost while leaving the local national resources and gas from Iran?

Just another corruption scandal. If they are serious in importing gas then a gas line only need to be laid from Iran border to Sui, in Bauchistan, since the gas pipelines already exist from Sui to rest of the country. Laying gas pipeline won't take more then few weeks.

With Dr Asim as Minister/Advisor, Pakistan will never see LNG imports. The nation will keep on suffering from gas shedding, load shedding, high electricity bills, unemployment, high petrol and CNG prices, high diesel and furnace oil prices, un-stability and closing of businesses and factories.
