QUEENSLAND: Pakistan defeated Afghanistan by 109 runs in the under-19 Cricket World Cup played here, Geo News reported.
Pakistan set a target of 255 for Afghanistan to win as the latter decided to field after wining the toss.
Captain Babar Azam and Sami Aslam scored 49 in the first wicket partnership. Sami Aslam was out at 21. During the play at one time Pakistan had lost 5 wickets for paltry 147, but in the sixth wicket partnership Umar Waheed and Mohammad Nawaz unbeatable scored 106 and thus set a target of 255 for Afghanistan to win.
Babar Azam scored 75, Mohammad Nawaz 66 and Umar Waheed 43 remained not out.
Chasing the target, Afghan team scored just 144 all out.
Pakistan's Zia-ul-Haq and Zaffar Gohar got four and two wickets respectively.
