KARACHI: There has been a sudden rise during the month of July in extortion and other criminal activity in the metropolis.

Eighteen traders/businessmen were kidnapped for ransom or to obtain extortion money. 220 business owners received messages through written notes, calls or MMS from extortionists while millions of rupees were received from factory owners, vendors and other businessmen as extortion money.

Despite the deteriorating situation, no major breakthrough was reported by the law enforcement agencies and concerned authorities.

Meanwhile the number of casualties in the last 17 days of July in Karachi is 109 while the total toll has exceeded 1000 in the year 2012 so far.

Fifty-two policemen were gunned down in the past six months while traders and businessmen were also targeted by the extortionist and target killers.

PPP in more trouble now and need more support from coalition partners. Ofcourse the political parties who offered support to PPP must get something in return and it appears they have been given more freedom in there acticites like extortion and target killing.

People have little faith in Imran or Nawaz who appear not to have welfare and safety of people at heart but perhaps consider it politically correct. It is time media took it upon itself to sympathize for the abhorrent conditions families of victims are forced to endure upon a daily basis. When God gives government authority, he never wished those to whom it was given use it to promote righteousness or wickedness? People should take to the streets of Islamabad to force the change.

It is shocking and strengthens ones belief of direct Government involvement in these merciless killings of opponents in the political arena. In the West, killing of one man dominates news but countless innocent lives are lost in Karachi every day brings no response from politicians like Imran and Nawaz or for that matter Altaf?. Why is there no sympathy or public outcry for the souls of these innocent people who have been taken from this earth well before their time?
