Contempt bill has divided nation: Imran

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf chairman, Imran Khan said Tuesday that the contempt of court bill had divided the nation.

Speaking to the media persons here, Khan emphasised that a new contempt law was being made “to protect the money of Asif Ali Zardari in Switzerland.”

Khan added that this bill would be struck down by the court.

Meanwhile a petition was filed in the Supreme Court on Tuesday challenging the contempt of court bill. Petitioner Siddique Baloch said that by proposing the bill, the government has taken an unconstitutional and unlawful step.

The National Assembly had on Monday passed the 13-clause bill which exempts “holders of public office” from the mischief of contempt in “exercise of powers and performance of functions” and allows for suspension of a sentence during the pendency of an appeal.

Imran appears to have reneged on his premise to take to the streets if Court was under attack instead asking Court to defend them is shocking and disgraceful. His conciliatory tone will give Zardari comfort of holding him to be an emperor and “the king can do no wrong” as gospel. Imran with his ridiculous promise of a long march or a Tsunami to bring Zardari to justice seek return of US$ 60 million appears an electioneering stunt but will be construed as obscene or made in bad taste.

Imran is like any other politician who has allied himself with the undemocratic forces to seek power for himself. He will learn, like Zardari and Sharif, that the establishment accepts only puppets who are useful for absorbing the brickbats from the people.

Why special privilege laws are made for few in Pakistan while others(Ordinaries) are punished for everything including how to earn a bread for their families.Imran Khan is right the court will reject such special status bill for the few in the ruling corridor.

Imran should be careful in opposing the Bill -- one day it may same HIM from being fired by a vengeful judge.

CJ has already been said that law is equal for all, so no way to accept this bill. SC will throw this bill back to PPP-Allies face.
