ISLAMABAD: The dual nationality bill faced opposition from all quarters when it was presented in the Senate. The PML-N, coalition partners and some members of the PPP expressed their reservations over the bill.

The bill was presented in the Senate by Law Minister Farooq H Naek. The PML-N and ANP which is a coalition partner of the government staged a walkout in protest to the bill.

Earlier during the session ANP Senator Haji Adeel said that Pakistan’s agreements with 16 countries regarding dual nationality should be presented. Adeel also asked if someone who also had Pakistani nationality could become the US president or a parliamentarian in another country.

Senators Aitzaz Ahsan and Raza Rabbani from the PPP also expressed their reservations over the bill. Ahsan said that when someone takes oath as an American citizen, they have to renounce other nationalities. “It is written in the US citizenship oath that a person can also take up arms in defence of the country.”

Senator Rabbani asked for a review of the dual nationality agreement with the US.

Reservations were also expressed by the MQM. Senator Tahir Mashadi said he would inform the standing committee about his reservations.

So take home message is do not try to cut those living outside from their country; ok if you have the problem with president/prime minister etc. position; make a law once he/she elected to certain position, before oath surrender your other nationalities if this what this all about. Remember who born in Pakistan, will never comprise the interest of this country over any other where he/she is a national. Dual National with love for Pakistan probably more than who lives the Pakistan

My Dear All, do not questioned the loyalty of overseas Pakistani (dual national) because of few bad people. Let's accept it no one leaves his/her country if they are well off in their own countries. Please do not make conclusion if you do not have the experience of living as dual national abroad. Let's not forget whatever they earn, send a substantial amount back to home

Dual nationality bill is a big joke with 18 million thousand people of Pakistan, just to protect some 100 of politicians, its shameful. How long we will see the future of Pakistan in hands of Shoukat Aziz or Moin or Rahman Malik like people....

Hold those responsible who will vote for this bill and when the next election comes around, these same very people should be shunned for a long long time to come. These people will do anything to benefit themselves, and when they get in trouble, they will fly the coop like Haqqani did.
