ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court heard the Malik Riaz contempt of court case today. Dr Basit, the lawyer of the property tycoon could not appear due to ill health, Geo News reported.

A three-member bench comprising Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan, Justice Ejaz Afzal and Justice Muahmmad Athar Saeed is seized with the case.

The bench rejected Malik Riaz's plea to adjourn the hearing for 10 days after getting no assurance of his lawyer's presence tomorrow.

Petitioner Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf Gujjar began his arguments. He noted difference in Riaz's press conference and the apology filed yesterday.

'In his presser, Bahria Town owner mentioned meetings with the chief justice in the dead of the night but the apology claimed that these were for the restoration of the judiciary.'

The judges observed that Dr Basit had completed his arguments on Wednesday and was reluctant to appear today.

On Wednesday, Malik Riaz submitted an unconditional apology by saying that he held all judges in the highest esteem particularly Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.

In his reply Malik Riaz submitted that he had lost self-control after getting a feeling that he was denied the opportunity to explain his position in the court in Arsalan's case.

He said that he addressed the press conference to prevent the ruin of Bahria Town, which had been brought to the brink of disaster.

Malik failed to realize what he was uttering SC is the highest Court in Pakistan and any derogatory remarks could land him in jail but if he begs to the court that he was foolish to do that perhaps he is pardoned. SC is not that hard on those who respect the SC NO one is above the law Mr Malik

Malik Riaz has finally follown to his knees,no one wants to represent him.The entire plan backfired and his planners have left him alone to stand trial. It is a good opportunity to scrutinize his assets ,find out the whole truth how people in Pakistan go from rags to riches.

It is my feeling that Malik Riaz wants to prolong the case which is linked to the contempt of court bill that is being introduced to save him for going to jail. Otherwise Zardari has too many simpletons to sacrifice just like Gilani and tease the judiciary, CJ in particular.

I am just clueless, these people become what they have strived to become by acquiring whatever they could and whatever means they use and the end result is nothing but humiliation. There are some great people living in Pakistan who would rather go to grave with holding their head high with pride that they were good human beings and they were fair to others and were loyal Pakistani citizens , I say like Ali Sheeraz says," WHERE HAVE ALL THE GOOD PEOPLE GONE!!!!!

His lawyer sick or decided otherwise. Such people do not loose self control as their minds are always working on the wrong track. I agree he lost the support of big cat after case got back fired. He himself will be responsible for the downfall of Bharia empire due his stupidity and arrogance. He should realize now that God's lathi is unforgivable and he should give back all grabbed land to rightful owners to partly save himself from wreath of god

He has not lost self-control at that movement, but on Wednesday and on-wards he has lost the support of conspirators and his accomplices. Therefore he found no way rather to self-apologies with apex court.....

Nothing happens to the rich and powerful in this world... Pakistan most of all is a land where such scum thrives. Shameful for this nation of apparently such sophisticated men and women ..(jo naal pe makkhi nahin baethnae detae) to have such trash and corrupt scum to represent them in the parliament of this land. I apologise profusely.. But you just have to look at the standards of this lot and hold your breath and wonder... WHERE HAVE ALL THE GOOD PEOPLE GONE!!!!!

Nothing will happen to Bahria Town if Riaz fully co-operates with the Honourable Supreme Court. Then he will not have to lose self-control. He should keep the golden principle in mind that supremacy of law is good for everyone. There are no exceptions.
