Membership of 2 MQM lawmakers suspended

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday has suspended the membership of MQM MNA Farhat Muhammad Khan and MQM MPA from Sindh, Nadia Gabol for having dual nationality, Geo News reported.

 

The court then adjourned the hearing of dual nationality case for two weeks.

 

The SC had already suspended the memberships of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Malik Jamil Awan, PPP's Zahid Iqbal, Farahnaz Ispahani – MNA and spouse of Hussain Haqqani and Rehman Malik, former interior minister for holding dual nationalities.

 

A three member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and comprising Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain heard a petition seeking disqualification of parliamentarians holding dual nationality here on Tuesday and suspended Malik Jamil Awan NA membership due to his Dutch citizenship.

 

Mahmood Akhtar Naqvi had filed a petition in the court, requesting to direct the ECP to obtain the complete record of parliamentarians who held dual nationalities, pleading that the court disqualify such parliamentarians and restraining them from contesting the next general elections.

Altaf bahi did very good job, now all mohajirs are at one plateform, like baacha khan did for pakhtoons very good job, like Nawaz Sharif did for punjabis, like bhutto did for sindhis, baloch people already having different tribal platforms and they are united under their own tribal traditions. What is wrong if Altaf bhai is keeping mohajirs under one umbrella ? Why people are jealous. Pakistan was not created for one tradition or for one large group.

Their disqualification is constitutional and it is right, how can be double citizenship entity be loyal to two nations that is out mind theory, shared nationality means shared loyalty.... One nationality for the purpose of earning money and other is for safe haven.....

@naeem, it is quite obvious from your comments that you have biased mentality, look at my post and find the word Mohajir in it. The problem with Pakistan is people with this kind of biased mentality that creates divide in the country. Karachi is a metropolitan city with people from all across Pakistan and elected member from Karachi belonging to any party should be given the same respect as any other part. That was the gist of my post. Culprits of May 12 should be brought to justice.

It is unfortunate to note that syed Junaid Ali has seen this disqualification with myopic view. The lagislature of PPP and MPL(N) have also been disqualified then why are you grudging? Do not you know that in so called Mohajir populated area in pakistan no one is allowed to give the skin of sacrificial animal with his consent.How people of Karachi can give vote with their consent? who are bathakhor?

Another DARK day in the history of Pakistan. Living abroad, I must say that myself, and probably few of the above names mentioned have more patriotism than an average Parliamentarian. Why cant we have the opportunity to represent us, our country, our people. The whole dual nationality clause is BS.

The MQM must respect the law. They claim to be the champions of discipline. Nevertheless, discipline does not mean pin drop silence and obeisance at Altaf's telecast speeches. Bid adieu to the MNA and MPA and go by the book (Constitution of 1973). If the PPP GOP has any sense left in its head, they will not pass the dual nationality law. Pakistan has become the object of derision to all accepted norms of sensibility and social order. Salams
