Removal of elected PM sad for democracy

LAHORE: The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has called the removal of Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani a sad occasion in a country where democratic traditions have perpetually been denied the nourishment they need to take roots.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, HRCP said, "The Supreme Court judgment was perhaps not unexpected. The removal of the elected prime minister, especially in a country like Pakistan where democratic traditions are very weak, is saddening and certainly not a matter for rejoicing'.

"At this critical time, the threats to democracy require the maximum possible understanding among political parties and the country's democratic future will be undermined if they continue to fight among themselves for narrow partisan ends. Ultimately, the people have to decide who governs them and we hope that the environment will not be polluted to the extent that a fair determination of electoral will becomes impossible." Gillani served his term which was legal up to April 26 only, after that his tenure became illegal and as such was asked by the SC to step down, this is joy for democracy not sad for democracy.Asma Jehangir is pushing her views on the HRCP.

HRCP does not listen to people of Pakistan. Their masters don't live in Pakistan.

I wonder why are they making this statement? Shouldn't we following the law? If this would happen in US or UK, the PM would have long gone, but shameless people have no shame and morals, instead they find excuses and chose to attack judiciary for doing their job.

Majority of sane people are not rejoicing the biased and unfair of decision of the supreme court. Look at the statements of Asma Jhangir, and PMLN leader Ayaz Mir. Those who are rejoicing today will repent in future. There is no doubt that the govt has failed to deliver, but it is even more harmful if the judiciary becomes biased/political and destabilises the democratic system.

This is rubbish and disgusting. He deserves life time imprisonment as well . It was just the environment created so he can be spared by respected judiciary.

Strange logic- democracy is strengthened not weakened by the Rule of Law. Democracy is to protect the rights of the people, when PM works for the corrupt then he is no longer representing the people.

HRCP have got it absolutely wrong. The system of checks and balances, where the Judiciary is fully empowered under the constitution to check the performance of the Executive (in this case an overly incompetent, corrupt and sycophant PM who puts his wretched party and its rotten head (Zardari) above his electorate and his people) is definitely a part of democracy. It is in no way sad and very much a time to rejoice. HRCP is talking rubbish!

Gilani got exactly what he bargained for! He was only safeguarding the so called President who is sitting there and enjoying the constitutional cover to avoid jail and negotiate another term for his son Bilawal Zardari. The Pakistani politicians forget that the constitution is the set of guidelines for some political pricks who do not carry the brains to ascertain their political direction and conduct themselves as required instead of molesting the constitution in their own favour.
