ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has initiated contact with political parties including those which are part of the coalition regarding the selection of the next prime minister.
A meeting of PML-N leaders held under the chairmanship of party president Nawaz Sharif was held here in which the country’s political situation was discussed. The PML-N meeting decided that apart from the Chaudhry brothers, other PML-Q leaders would also be contacted.
Sourced add that the PML-N is also willing to accept a PM candidate from the coalition partners if it was assured that loadshedding would be eliminated and transparent elections would be held.
However the PML-N could field a candidate of its own if the nominee for the next prime minister was from the PPP.
The PML-N has decided that if there is no agreement reached with the coalition partners the party would nominate Sardar Mehtab Abbasi for prime minister.
Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Sardar Mehtab, Iqbal Zarfar Jhagra and Ahsan Iqbal have been tasked to contact the coalition partners, sources added.
Meanwhile the PML-N has contacted JUI-F Maulana Fazlur Rehman and the FATA joint parliamentary group.
