LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Wednesday stressed the need for introducing reforms in the system to provide immediate relief to the people. Addressing a video conference from Model Town, he said transformation of the current system was vital to make it according to the public aspirations.

During the meeting, different proposals and recommendations regarding prompt relief to the people and improving the standard of civic amenities came under discussion. Separately, Shahbaz said the Zardari-Niazi hook-up was only meant for the sake of grabbing power, adding, “Mr Niazi Sahib has taken yet another U-turn by entering into alliance with Mr Zardari.”

“The opponents may enter into numerous alliances but the PML-N will win the elections on the basis of its performance,” he said during a meeting with Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique who called on him on Wednesday.

In a meeting Federal Minister for Power Awais Leghari, the chief minister said the past governments used the slogan of southern Punjab province for their political purposes.

Shahbaz said, “In every development programme, southern Punjab has been given 10 per cent additional quota,” and added that the billions of rupees had been spent on construction and restoration of roads in rural areas.

Leghari said due to the development work carried out under the supervision of Shahbaz, the PML-N’s vote bank had been increased in the region. “Your vision and hard work for solving the problems of southern Punjab is not hidden to anybody and unprecedented development work has been carried out in different cities and villages of southern Punjab during the tenure of PML-N,” he said.
