KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has supported the strike call for Wednesday by traders of the metropolitan city, following the murder of Qarar Ali Shah, brother of MQM's ex-MPA Syed Shakir Ali here on Tuesday.

Earlier today, unknown gunmen shot dead one of the brothers of MQM’s ex MPA Shakir Ali at scrap market in Shershah area and severely wounded the other brother Zakir Ali.

After the incident, tension gripped different areas including Shershah, Jahanabad, Pak Colony, Site and Nazimabad while shops were also closed.

Spokesman of MQM demanded protection for the traders and arrest of the extortionists involved in their murder.

Most of the examinations to be held on Wednesday in Karachi have been postponed due to a strike called by the traders against the killing of a brother of an ex-MQM MPA in the Shershah scrap market.

MQM Rabitta Committee and Karachi Transport Ittehaad have also endorsed the strike.

The Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education (BISE) Karachi, Federal Urdu University, and Jinnah University for Women have so far announced the shelving of exams scheduled for tomorrow (June 13 Wednesday).

The new dates for the exams would be announced later, the statements issued in this regard added.

@Ahmad Ali, You are right. We are in these cases insensitive to each other sufferings just b/c the sufferer is little different from us. Even though all segments of society are facing injustices and zulm for one reason or another but somehow don't accept that others might be suffering as well. It is really tragic

Coersion, intimidation are the rules of the day. About a month ago, 12-14 people were killed when a peaceful procession was fired upon. There was no strike by the traders.
