CM hints welfare schemes in KP budget

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Amir Haider Khan Hoti has said that government's special initiatives for eradication of unemployment, poverty and illiteracy have achieved wide appreciation by the people and thousands of families were being benefiting from these measures.

 

Addressing a meeting of the allied parties here on Thursday, he said that these special initiatives will continue in upcoming budget and other people welfare schemes will also be introduced.

 

ANP Parliamentary Leader in Provincial Assembly, Bashir Ahmad Bilour, PPP Parliamentary Leader Abdul Akbar Khan, Senior Provincial Minister Rahim Dad Khan, Provincial Ministers and MPAs attended.

 

The ruling coalition partners also discussed upcoming budget session of the Provincial Assembly to be announced on June 8.

 

One billion rupees will be allocated for Bacha Khan Kphal Rozgar Scheme in next financial year so that increased number of youth can benefit from interest free loan worth Rs 100,000 thereby enabling them to earn livelihood for their families.

 

He said that the rate of return of loans under the scheme is 99.5pc which is clear testimony of prominence and importance of the programme.

 

He said that Stori Da Pakhtunkhwa and Rokhana Pakhtunkhwa Programme aimed at encouraging intelligent student and increasing literacy ratio, he added. Unemployed and skilled youth were being benefiting from Hunarmand Rozgar Scheme and Riwayati Hunarmand Rozgar Scheme.

 

He said that such schemes of people welfare will continue during next financial year.

I think this is a waste of money and will open up new avenues for corruption. Welfare programs tend to be are complicated and provide wrong incentives to the people. The best option is to invest in infrastructure that will benefit the common man.
