KARACHI: The TV channel of Axact cannot use its equipment following a notice served on them by the Customs Intelligence under the Customs Act, Director Asif Marghob Siddiqui told The News. He said under Section 2KK, the TV channel could not transport/move its equipment or use it. All the equipment is now state property.
Even after so many days, the management of Axact’s channel could not provide the FIA officials with proof of payment of taxes and duties on the imported equipment. This equipment is worth billions of rupees. Questions are being asked in FIA circles whether the equipment was smuggled or duty was paid on it.
A junior officer of the FIA said the management of channel had not given an answer to this question so far. He said the Customs department also could not find any entry of this equipment in its record. He said the equipment was probably smuggled. Investigations in this regard are under way and the result will be clear soon, he said.
