KARACHI: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Saturday announced to organize the upcoming Local Government elections in Karachi under the supervision of army, saying the polls will be organized on December 5 at all costs.

Addressing a press conference, Secretary ECP Babar Yaqoob Fateh pointed out that out of the total of 4141 polling stations, just 234 are normal while the rest of them either fall under the category of 'sensitive' or ‘extremely sensitive’.

He said in case it is decided to place Rangers personnel inside polling stations, it will be ensured that they are granted powers of a magistrate.

Babar Yaqoob Fateh said the District Returning Officers will have the powers to register cases against anyone found violating the ECP code of conduct during the polls.

He complained that some provincial institutions including Steel Mill and Port Qasim were not extending cooperation.
