Target-killers, political party activists held in Karachi operations

KARACHI: At least 35 people, including five activists of a political party and three suspects alleged to be target-killer involved in multiple murders, were detained in operations by law enforcers in different parts of Karachi on Friday.

The Sindh Police Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) arrested a wanted target-killer involved in 10 murders as well as multiple cases of extortion from near the Parking Plaza located in Saddar.

CTD officials said they recovered weapons from the accused, identified as Muhammad Yaqoob alias Mama. The accused also led the team to a huge cache of weapons including a light machine gun (LMG) with 350 rounds, 3 AK47 assault rifles with 50 rounds of ammunition, one .44 rifle, 2 pump action repeater shot guns with 5 rounds and one TT pistol with 4 rounds of ammunition.

According to CTD officials, Yaqoob aka Mama was directly involved in 10 target killings, including the murders of Inspector Nasir in 2010, Advocate Bashir in 2011, as well the murders of multiple members of a political party.

In a second raid, CTD officials said they arrested Adnan alias Biloo who was also involved in target-killing, extortion and street crime. CTD officials told Geo.tv that Adnan was arrested from Manghopir Road after he exchanged fire with the raiding police party.

The CTD team confiscated one TT pistol and 10 stolen mobile phones from the accused.

Target killer arrested from Gulshan-i-Maymar

Separately, Rangers forces carried out an operation in the Gulshan-i-Maymar area of the city in which it claimed arresting a target-killer involved in the killing of 57 persons.

According to a Rangers spokesman, the suspected target-killer, identified as Moiz Saleem, belongs to a political party and was arrested in the 'surgical operation' in Maymar late Thursday night.

Apart from the 57 alleged murders, Rangers officials claimed the suspect was also involved in gun attacks on police mobile vehicles in the metropolis.

The suspect was later presented in the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) where he was sent on a 90-day remand into Rangers' custody.

32 held in overnight operations

Earlier, Rangers and police personnel carried out search operations in Liaquatabad, Shah Faisal Colony, Manghopir, Sultanabad, Nusrat Bhutto colony, and Orangi Town areas of the city in the wee hours of the day.

According to officials, the law enforcers detained 32 people on suspicion. The detained suspects included five activists of a political party.
