KARACHI: The Sindh Rangers have seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition in Landhi area of the city, foiling a major terror bid in the wake of Defence Day celebrations.

A spokesman for the paramilitary force said on Saturday that the recovered weapons belonged to the armed wing of ‘a political party’ involved in incidents of targeted killings in the port city.

RPG rockets, 7MM and 8MM rifles, 40 Awan bombs, tens of thousands of rounds of LMG and SMG bullets among other arms and ammunition were recovered in the raid, he added.

The Rangers and police have intensified their operation, launched in 2013 against criminals and terrorists, in the violence-hit economic hub of Pakistan.

Earlier in the day, AIG Sindh Police Mushtaq Mahar had claimed that the major crimes have been dropped by 70 per cent in the metropolis.

Flanked by other officials of police, CPLC and Rangers, he presented statistics regarding the Karachi operation to mark the completion of two years of the major offensive against criminals and terrorists in the city.
