ISLAMABAD: The matter of dialogues between the government and Muttahida Qaumi Movement remained in doldrums as Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Tuesday failed to meet Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

The government has tasked Fazlur Rehman to mediate with the MQM and convince the party to withdraw resignations of its lawmakers from the assemblies.

Lawmaker belonging to the party resigned from NA, Senate and Sindh Assembly after expressing reservations on ongoing Rangers and police operation in Karachi. They say that MQM is being targeted in the garb of operation against criminals and terrorists in the Sindh capital.

The matter of formation of a monitoring committee for Karachi operation also could not be resolved as it was scheduled to be discussed in today's meeting.

The government and MQM teams had also agreed that a 'grievance redressal committee' would be formed to listen to legitimate reservations of MQM.

Fazlur Rehman was assured for a meeting with the Premier after his return from Kazakhstan.
