Four killed, over 50 injured in Khyber Agency suicide bombing

JAMRUD: At least four people were killed and over 50 injured in a suicide blast that struck Khyber Agency's Jamrud Bazaar on Tuesday, officials said.

The suicide bomber struck near a local government office in Jamrud Bazaar area. A political administration official said the blast was carried out near the vehicle of Line Officer of the Khasadar force.

Officials said a second bomb planted outside the office of the assistant political agent was found and defused about an hour after the first explosion.

Political agent Shah Wali Shah said that the dead included one security personnel and two civilians.

The injured, included at least 15 security personnel of the Khasadar force, were taken to the Jamrud hospital for emergency treatment. Some of those critically injured were later shifted to Peshawar.

No militant group immediately claimed responsibility for the bombing.

The Pakistani military has been battling the Taliban and other militant groups Khyber tribal agency. Khyber is one of Pakistan's seven semi-autonomous tribal districts near the Afghan border which have long been rife with Taliban militants.

The army has been waging a major offensive against insurgent hideouts in the tribal northwest for over a year in a bid to cleanse the area of militants and extremists.
