ISLAMABAD: Responding to PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari’s stern statement against the PML-N government and its leadership, Federal Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid on Monday said the ‘politics of 90s’ had been buried by both Benazir Bhutto and PM Nawaz Sharif.

Speaking at a press conference here, he said that they respect former president Zardari, who he claimed was misinformed in taking such a strict stance against the government.

“Awarding punishment or revoking it doesn’t fall under the jurisdiction of the government,” said the minister, who added that neither they were carrying out the politics of vengeance nor had they done so in the past.

“We all support Pakistan Army… it enjoys backing of the whole nation,” he added.

Commenting over upcoming by-polls in NA-122 and NA-154, the information minister said that PTI Chairman Imran Khan was trying to escape from contesting the elections.

When asked about the Karachi operation and MQM’s reservations over it, Rashid said those who have not committed any crime would soon return to their homes after the ongoing police interrogation was concluded against them.

The law takes its own course and hopefully any misunderstanding, if existed, would be removed by this press conference, he added.

“There is no hindrance in dialogue between government and MQM… God willing soon you’ll hear a god news in this regard,” said the minister.

‘Clean chit for Punjab, PML-N’

Later speaking exclusively to Geo News, senior PPP leader Qamar Zaman Kaira said that his party did not want a collision by disrupting the situation. However, he added that the federal institutions were completely ignoring Punjab and PML-N by giving them a ‘clean chit’.

“Is Sindh the only province with all the shortcomings and corruption?” he questioned.

Kaira said they were not counseling for anyone who was corrupt. CM Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah was the so called captain of the Karachi operation, he added.
