SIALKOT: India is Pakistan's sole enemy and killing our civilians near the borders and backing terrorists on our soil, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said Sunday, as he visited border areas where several people have been martyred by unprovoked firing from across the Working Boundary.

"There is no example of such barbarity in modern times. Girls as young as 5 and 7 years-old are lying injured at the CMH (hospital)," said the defence minister.

"There were no soldiers or army here, neither was there any such activity. Our coward enemy has attacked innocent civilians. But, God willing, we will defend every inch of our homeland. No matter what sacrifice is needed, the entire nation is ready for it," he said.

"If our enemies think about crossing the border to mount an attack, we will inflict so much damage that they will be unable to recover until judgment day," he warned.

He said that the 200-million population of the country is standing by the army in complete support.

In an apparent reference to the terrorist attack on Peshawar's Army Public School, he said that the ones martyring children in Pakistan's schools or murdering civilians at the border are the same.

"India's involvement and the way it is supporting terrorism in Pakistan…terrorists and India are the same enemy. There two faces, but the enemy is one, and that is India. By spreading terrorism in Pakistan and martyring innocent civilians on the borders, India is showing its true face," he said.

Asif said that Pakistan would raise the issue with the international community as well US National Security Adviser Susan Rice, who is currently visiting Pakistan.

"We will inform her of this, with proper evidence. And we will raise this matter in the United Nations and inform influential global leaders as well of this,” he said.

“Pakistan is an independent and sovereign nation, and we will defend it with our blood. Pakistan will never accept India's efforts to enforce its agenda on us."
